Happy Friday DDS Families,
This week students engaged in learning about Truth and Reconciliation. Through the body domain, students participated in a lacrosse residency. Lacrosse has long been known as the 'medicine game'. Students had opportunities to learn a brief history of the sport and some basic lacrosse skills. Our collective work towards Truth and Reconciliation is guided by our annual Call to Action. Last year we entered into partnership with Stacy Running Rabbit, with staff learning from her on Professional Learning days and students learning about Blackfoot dances at one of our June assemblies. For 2026-2027 we are excited to continue our partnership with Stacey and commit to the following:
In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day,and in alignment with the CBE Education Plan, Douglasdale School acknowledges and supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action, and makes the following commitment to action for the 2026-2027 school year:
Spirit - To Be: Create opportunities for students, staff, and families to build and nurture learning relationships with Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers that fosters a spirit of reciprocity.
In addition to our school-wide focus, teachers will communicate through their weekly blog on Google Classroom more specific learning that has taken place in the classroom. We look forward to a successful year of walking together as learners.
Have a wonderful weekend ahead!
