Happy Thursday Douglasdale!

Today we gathered as a community for our annual Terry Fox run. Our Grade 4s did a wonderful job setting up the course and championing our assembly. Thank you to the parents who volunteered and helped our event run smoothly!

 

Over this past week, students and staff shared stories and discussed Truth and Reconciliation through an age-appropriate lens within their classrooms. All CBE schools will be closed tomorrow, September 30, to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day). This day is dedicated to honouring the children who never returned home from residential schools, the survivors, and their families and communities. CBE staff and their families and friends are invited to attend a public commemorative event hosted by the City of Calgary in friendship with CBE and the Calgary Catholic School District. The third annual ceremonial event will take place from 9-10:30 a.m. at Fort Calgary.

Terry Fox Run:

On September 28, 2023, DDS students took part in the annual Terry Fox School Run. Our fundraising goal this year is $2000.

URGENT - Casino volunteers required:

We need your help!  Douglasdale School council needs a few more volunteers to fill positions for our bi-annual casino on Saturday October 14th and Sunday October 15th.  Our school benefits greatly from the $60,000 - $80,000 earned during these events and we must fill these shifts for all the children at DDS to benefit.  We currently have the following shifts available:

Saturday October 14, 2023

10:00am – 7:15pm:  General Manager & Cashier:  

6:30pm – 3:45am: General Manager

 Sunday October 15, 2023

 10:00am – 7:15pm: Cashier

 6:30pm – 3:45am: General Manager & Cashier

11:00pm – 3:45am:  Countroom

We also need a few people who are willing to be backup volunteers who would be available to step in if someone is ill or needs to cancel last minute.

If your child is going to be late or absent, please either call the school office 403-777-6177 Ext. 1 or email Ms. Naylor senaylor@cbe.ab.ca before 9:05am.  Please speak clearly and slowly when leaving a message and include:

1. Your child’s name

2. Teacher's name 

3. Reason for the absence or late

Please email your child's teacher and Ms. Naylor senaylor@cbe.ab.ca  if you are picking your child up early from school.
