DDS Weekly Message - September 22, 2023
Happy Thursday Douglasdale!
Thank you to all of our families who came to tonight’s Open House and Playground Picnic! Teachers were excited to welcome families into learning spaces and we know students were excited to share their favourite learning spaces and play on our amazing new playground. Just a reminder, there is no school for students tomorrow. It is a professional learning day for teachers.
Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Student Clubs
Students are invited to sign up for Quidditch Club – Grades 4 and 5 (before school) - Sign up here. The deadline to sign up is Sunday, September 24th at noon.
Chess Club Invitation for Grade 1 and 2 students: In response to requests, we are going to offer chess club to our grade 1 and 2 students. We are seeking parent volunteers, who know how to play chess, to support this club. We will need a ratio of 1 adult to 4 students in order to run this club. This ratio will ensure each group has an adult to coach them through the learning process. Details and sign-up information are located here.
School Council Information:
The next School Council meeting will be October 25th. Meeting information and an online link for those who prefer to attend online will be sent closer to the date.
Our Douglasdale School Council is also eagerly looking for volunteers for our casino on Saturday October 14th and Sunday October 15th. We still have lots of positions and shifts to fill. No police clearance or school volunteer registration is required, anyone can help! This is our single biggest fundraiser that puts an average of $65,000 into our school to pay for everything from smart boards to field trips.
Please email douglasdaleschoolcouncil@gmail.com for more information.
Terry Fox Run:
On Thursday, September 28, 2023 DDS students will be taking part in the annual Terry Fox School Run. Our fundraising goal this year is $2 000. We will start the event with an assembly at 9:30 am, followed by an outdoor walk/run around our school field. If you are interested in volunteering for the event, please reach out to your child’s teacher. The event will take approximately one hour from start to finish.
Our school is proud to play an important role in supporting cancer research. Through our participation in the Terry Fox School Run, we hope to encourage leadership in our students and create positive agents of change in our wonderful school community.
How to donate: Click this link: https://schools.terryfox.ca/31085 to our school’s fundraising page. It’s fast, easy and donors get a receipt immediately by email. Your child may also choose to set up their own fundraising page by clicking the “Donate to a Student” button. Their page will connect automatically to our school’s fundraising page and they’ll receive a link to email friends and family to help them reach their fundraising goal.
We are very excited to be a part of this year’s Terry Fox Run. We hope you will join us as our school community bands together in the fight against cancer.
