DDS Weekly Message - September 15, 2023
Happy Friday Douglasdale Families!
Now that we are a couple of weeks into the school year, we are all settled into the regular flow of daily learning. You will be receiving a SchoolMessenger from your child’s classroom teacher Friday afternoons, directing you to their weekly update within Google Classroom. We use this method of communicating classroom highlights because it is password protected, allowing us to share classroom photos. If you require support to log in, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.
As an enhancement to the excellent learning happening in classrooms, DDS staff will also be offering before school/ lunch time clubs this year. If your child is interested in signing up, please register using the following links:
Quidditch Club – Grades 4 and 5 (before school) - Sign up here
Chess Club – Grades, 3, 4 and 5 (Thursday lunch time) - Sign up here
Note: We are seeking additional chess boards for the Chess Club. If you are able to donate or lend a chess board to our club, please send it with your child to chess club or to Mrs. McKay in the office. Thank you for your support!
Stay tuned for more clubs coming up! As always please check out our Instagram page for school snapshots throughout the week. We hope you all have an amazing weekend!
Cheers,
Heather, Monique and Sue

School Council Information:
Thank you to the families who joined us for this week’s School Council Meeting. The next School Council meeting will be October 25th. Meeting information and an online link for those who prefer to attend online will be sent closer to the date.
Our Douglasdale School Council is also eagerly looking for volunteers for our casino on Saturday October 14th and Sunday October 15th. We still have lots of positions and shifts to fill. No police clearance or school volunteer registration is required, anyone can help! This is our single biggest fundraiser that puts an average of $65,000 into our school to pay for everything from smart boards to field trips.
Please email douglasdaleschoolcouncil@gmail.com for more information.
DDS School Apparel – Now Open:
We are once again partnering with Fresh Brand Gear for interested families to purchase DDS apparel including t-shirts and hoodies. If you are interested in ordering, families will receive a 20% discount at checkout between September 8 – 19. You can order from our DDS Swag Store here: Douglasdale School Apparel Store
Terry Fox Run:
On Thursday, September 28, 2023 DDS students will be taking part in the annual Terry Fox School Run. Our fundraising goal this year is $2 000. We will start the event with an assembly at 9:30 am, followed by an outdoor walk/run around our school field. If you are interested in volunteering for the event, please reach out to your child’s teacher. The event will take approximately one hour from start to finish.
Our school is proud to play an important role in supporting cancer research. Through our participation in the Terry Fox School Run, we hope to encourage leadership in our students and create positive agents of change in our wonderful school community.
How to donate: Click this link: https://schools.terryfox.ca/31085 to our school’s fundraising page. It’s fast, easy and donors get a receipt immediately by email. Your child may also choose to set up their own fundraising page by clicking the “Donate to a Student” button. Their page will connect automatically to our school’s fundraising page and they’ll receive a link to email friends and family to help them reach their fundraising goal.
We are very excited to be a part of this year’s Terry Fox Run. We hope you will join us as our school community bands together in the fight against cancer.
School Yard Trees:
We are asking families who use our school field to have a conversation with your children about the trees. While it is fun to climb and hang on tree branches, there is significant damage occurring. Thank you for working together as a community to respect and care for our natural world!
