Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year

First Day of Classes
The first day of school for students is Monday, August 31, 2026.
Parents can call or visit the school office before the school year begins:
- Wednesday, August 26, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Thursday, August 27, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Friday, August 28, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Regular office hours are 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, our office is open from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM. During the school year, you can also leave a message on the school answering machine or email the school at Douglasdale@cbe.ab.ca and a member of the office staff will contact you.
Kindergarten Staggered Entry
DDS has two morning Kindergarten classes for 2026-2027. All kindergarten classes will have a staggered entry. Teachers will meet students at their designated entrance, which will be shared with families in the Welcome Back email. Half of the students attend on August 31 (last names A-J only) and half of the students attend on September 1 (last name K-Z only). All students attend on September 4.
Assigned Teachers
Families will receive an email from your child's assigned teacher on Thursday August 27, 2026 at 4:00 pm. Information about where to meet the teacher on the first day will be included. For students who require an earlier visit to meet their teacher and see their classroom, please respond to your child's teacher with your request and to set up a time on Friday, August 28th. If your child has an Individual Program Plan and an early visit has been recommended in the June 2026 Transition note, the new classroom teacher will reach out to you.

Yellow School Bus Transportation
Our yellow school bus routes are designed over the summer using the addresses submitted before June's pre-registration deadline. Get ready for some exciting journeys!

School Supplies
Student supplies are provided by the school for children in kindergarten through Grade 5. Families provide indoor shoes, a backpack, lunch, a water bottle, and snacks. DDS is a nut aware school. Allergen signs are posted on the outside of each classroom to support student safety.

Digital technologies are transforming how we teach our students. We utilize a range of technology tools to personalize each student’s learning experience, including getting connected to Wi-Fi for seamless access to educational resources.
Off-Site Activities
Keep updated on field-trips and other exciting off-site activities throughout the year. We're excited to expand on learning opportunities by stepping outside of the classroom.
