Happy Friday Douglasdale Families!

This week our learning community recognized the National Week for Truth and Reconciliation. As a school, students learned how to play lacrosse, known as the Medicine Game and Canada’s national summer sport. Some students were nervous to start, but by the end of the week they had learned to persevere when learning new skills and work as a team to solve a collective goal through game play. Thank you to our School Council for generously paying for this weeklong residency through the Alberta Lacrosse Association.

Classrooms explore concepts of Truth and Reconciliation in many ways. For example, grade 4 learned about Treaty 7 and were inspired by an Indigenous artist to create their own artwork. Kindergarten learned how to Acknowledge the Land using the Calgary Public Library’s version including sign language. To learn more about how your child(ren) participated in Truth and Reconciliation this week, classroom teachers will share via their weekly learning updates.

Next week there is no school for students on Monday or Tuesday. On Wednesday, students will have an opportunity to meet in their multi-age groups. This is a chance to learn with siblings and form connections with students from all different grades. We invite students to wear an orange shirt on Wednesday as we continue to explore Truth and Reconciliation through Story and community.

Have a wonderful weekend ahead!
