Happy Sunday DDS Families,
This week students started an evidence-based Social Emotional Learning program called Kindness in the Classroom. Teachers introduced the lessons in their classrooms and we hosted a school-wide assembly introducing our first concept, RESPECT. Students learned that respect means treating people, places and things with kindness. There are six concepts we will highlight over the school year: Respect – Caring – Inclusiveness – Integrity – Responsibility – Courage. We invite families to connect to your child’s learning through the Kindness at Home resources linked above. Some examples of ideas in the home newsletter are: How can we make someone else feel respected? What makes you feel respected?
Next week, students will participate in our SOGO Adventure Running residency generously funded by our DDS School Council. Students will be engaged in running-related activities outside daily and will need to dress for the weather. We are running, rain or shine! On rainy days, students should bring a change of dry clothes to change into. We are still looking for volunteers, especially in the younger grades. If you can help, please register to volunteer here.
With regards to parking, this is a gentle reminder that the staff parking lot should not be used by parents at any time. We share a building with CBE Area Staff who come and go throughout the day. It may look like an open spot, but it is assigned to staff members who will need it. Thank you for your support.
As always, there is a lot happening at DDS! You can follow along via our DDS Instagram pages to stay up to date with school events and learning! @dds346cbe and @ddsschoolcouncil

Volunteering at DDS:
If you are interested in volunteering at DDS follow the instructions below:
Step 1: You must first register as a volunteer at DDS. This should be done through MyCBE by clicking on the Online Forms and School Registration tab and completing the Volunteer Registration 2024-25 form. You can also submit an application through the DDS school office.
We will verify your identity and register you in the CBE volunteer database. We will email you a letter enabling you to obtain a police information check from the Calgary Police Service (CPS).
Volunteers must reside in Canada for a full year before registering. Police clearances from countries other than Canada are not accepted.
Step 2: Visit the CPS online system, electronic Police Information Check (ePIC), to obtain your police check using your CBE volunteer letter.
Volunteers should wait to submit their request until they receive an email from Calgary Police Service – Record Check inviting them to apply for their Police Information Check with VS for Volunteer. This will ensure the voucher is ready to be redeemed by the volunteer.
Voucher costs are covered for online applications only. If you apply to Calgary Police Service in-person with the e-Pic letter given them from DDS, the $21.25 application fee will apply.
If you submit your own payment, there is no option for a refund. There is no refund option for volunteers who have previously submitted applications.
Step 3: Once you receive your clearance document from CPS you will need to share it with the DDS. This can be done through School Engage, in-person or by email (Senaylor@cbe.ab.ca)
Each school year you must complete the CBE volunteer registration form. By completing the form, you agree to abide by the conditions that protect the safety, confidentiality and working environment of our schools. You also make a signed declaration with regard to criminal charges.
