Staffing Update:
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Ms. Davies for her work with Grade 5 over the past couple of months. We wish her the best as she transitions into a new position with Auburn Bay School. DDS is excited to welcome Mr. Young back into our Grade 5 teaching team. Ms. Serpico will continue to teach grade one until Ms. Haggard’s return.
Traffic Safety:
If you are driving your child to or picking your child up from school, we wanted to remind you of some important safety reminders. Many of our students walk to school, including crossing the street and walking on the sidewalks adjacent to both home and school driveways. Do not perform 3-point or U turns in front of the school. These create dangerous conditions which put student safety at risk. It is also important that parents review pedestrian safety with children who walk to school. It is safest for pedestrians to establish eye contact with a driver before they start to cross. Thank you for helping us keep DDS students safe on their way to and from school.
APEGA Science Night – Thursday, March 19 - 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm:
We invite you to join us for a fun evening of hands-on science and engineering activities and demonstrations in the school gym. The experiments are intended to be a fun and engaging way to learn basic science concepts with applications in engineering and geoscience. Parents must supervise their children and help them with the experiments and the learning. This event will coincide with evening Parent/Teacher/Student conferences.
World Water Day – March 22nd:
To coincide with World Water Day on March 22nd, Douglasdale School Council will be hosting an online rain barrel sale. The sale will run until May 15th with an anticipated pick up day of May 28th - delivery options are available. $10 from each rain barrel will come back to the school and all rain barrels are eligible for the City of Calgary's rain barrel rebate. For more information and to pre-order visit https://rainbarrel.ca/douglasdaleschool.
