Happy Friday Douglasdale Families!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for today’s African Drumming performance. These types of experiences are called School Residencies and are possible due to School Council fundraising such as our Read-a-Thon and Casino. Today was extra special as it was Mr. Anderson’s final whole school performance with Douglasdale and The Calgary Board of Education. We have been lucky to experience music with Mr. Anderson’s expertise and passion and wish him the best on his upcoming retirement!
As we start to plan for next year, we are pleased to inform you that Douglasdale school has been allocated 2 additional teaching position(s) for the 2026–27 school year through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant.
This funding is specifically intended to help reduce class sizes in core subject areas (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies), with priority given to schools experiencing the greatest class size pressures. At DDS, this grant will fund teaching positions that will support improved learning conditions in grades 3, 4, and 5.
This decision was made using system-wide data that considers:
- The number of classes exceeding provincial class size benchmarks
- Projected enrolment and class organization
- School programming and grade configuration
Our goal is to ensure students benefit from:
- Increased teacher attention
- Improved classroom learning environments
- Greater support for diverse learning needs
We remain committed to supporting strong learning environments for all students and using our resources thoughtfully and strategically. Teaching teams will be announced in late August and you can expect an email from your child’s teacher at 4:00 pm on August 27th to welcome them to the 2026-2027 school year.
Thank you,
Heather McKay
Principal, Douglasdale School
School Council News:
DDS families, along with friends and community members, are invited to join us on the evening of June 18th (5:00 pm to 8:00 pm) for our annual Food Truck Community Night and Bottle Drivel. It will be a great chance to come together, enjoy delicious food, and celebrate a fantastic school year.
Register for next year’s yellow bus service – Deadline June 14, 2026:
It is important that families apply by Sunday, June 14, 2026, for your child/ren to be added to routes for the start of the next school year. CBE will continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 14 deadline will be delayed. It may take until mid-October before your child is able to ride the bus.
Confirmed routes will be posted in MyCBE in August.
The estimated annual cost for Grades 1-5 is $500.00 and for kindergarten (one way) $285.00. Families can cancel with no financial impact by submitting a cancellation form by Sept. 30, 2026. Registration is available through your MyCBE account.
2025-2026 Yearbook – We have 10 yearbooks available:
If you missed the opportunity to purchase a 2025-2026 yearbook, we have 13 copies available. If you would like to purchase one, please call Mrs. Naylor at 403-777-6177.
Gently Used Clothing – Ages 5 to 8 years old required:
We would be very appreciative of any gently used boys' and girls' pants, shorts, and running shoes that would fit students aged 5 years to 8 years old. The office will collect any donations to refresh our collection for students when they need them. Thank you.
If your child has borrowed clothes from the office, this is a friendly reminder to wash and return the items to the office before the end of the school year (June 26).
