Happy Sunday DDS Families,
We had a great turnout at our Candy Cane Dance this week. Thank you to our DDS School Council for organizing and hosting this fun community event! Funds raised through this dance are used for the Community Cares fund, a fund which supports DDS families going through major life events and/or food insecurity.
This year Douglasdale School’s December charity campaign will once again support the Braveheart Giving Drive to show support for one of our teachers and the journey her family is on. Ryder Haggard, Mrs. Haggard’s 14-year-old son, was born with a rare congenital heart disease, Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. He has had 3 open heart surgeries to palliatively correct his heart and lives with a single-functioning ventricle and atrium. The Haggard family champions the Braveheart Giving Drive to help other cardiac families who find themselves in the cardiac unit at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
Douglasdale School will be collecting monetary donations for the Braveheart Giving Fund to support families going through a similar journey at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. If your family would like to contribute to the Braveheart Giving Drive, the school office will be collecting cash donations until December 19th. Students who bring in a donation will hang an ornament heart on our Giving Tree to represent their generosity towards other children and their families. Thank you for considering joining us in giving!
As we start to plan forward into the new year, we were hoping to gain feedback about the timing and content of our weekly message from the office. We would love to hear your feedback through this short survey.
Have a great week ahead!

DDS Cares! Holiday Card Drive for Seniors:
Douglasdale School Council is collecting handmade and /or store-bought holiday cards to be delivered to seniors in our community this December. The holiday season can be an isolating time for many seniors, so we are spreading acts of kindness!! Make one or make many, each card will be delivered to a senior in long term care, retirement living, dementia units, and seniors living at home. Draw a picture, write a poem, tell a joke, say an encouraging message, or a simple holiday greeting! These cards are very treasured by those who receive them!
Option 1: Get construction paper, stickers, glue, glitter... construction paper folded in half works great!
Option 2: Buy bundles of cards and sign your greeting! You could also personalize a message or attach a printed message. You can seal them in an envelope or just as a card. Whether you make the cards yourself or buy the cards, it is what goes on the inside that matters most.
The reality is, that may be the only Holiday card a senior receives this year... the only outpouring of joy, the only festive hello - all season long. Forget about the fact that you won't know where these cards are going and just think about writing a card to your parents/ grandparents. Write it from the heart. We are here to make people feel LOVED this holiday season so let's do just that! Write a few or write many! To put it into perspective, most Seniors living homes house 70-150 residents EACH - and that doesn't include palliative care or home care residents in the communities. Please don't add candy canes or bulky treats to the cards. Completed cards can be dropped off in the marked collection box in the front foyer of DDS.
Collection Card Drive Date: November 21st- December 16th
Healthy Hunger Gift Cards | Fundraising for DDS:
In addition to the money raised through ordering on our fun lunch days, Healthy Hunger now offers e-gift card purchases with a percentage of each gift card amount contributing back to the school. If you are purchasing gift cards this holiday season or even if you have a favourite coffee, grocery location or clothing store, please consider purchasing through Healthy Hunger and supporting our school funds. E-gift cards are emailed and can include a personalized message. They can be sent straight to someone’s inbox or to yourself for easy downloading from your account.
